There's a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of it's many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet passes, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. Old and frail animals are made whole. They play all day with each other. There is only one thing missing. They are not with that special person who loved them so much on earth. But the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together for eternity... -Anonymous

We had to say our final goodbyes to Max today. He went peacefully. Everyone at the vet's office was very kind. Many were crying; even the vet had to wipe away a tear; they said he was their favorite patient. He really was a gentle soul who rescued us just as much as we rescued him. He always greeted everyone who came to our home with a big woof and wag of his tail, then settled himself across the hallway as our guardian of peace, our beloved "roadblock," who easily took up that much room in our hearts as well. There is an empty space in the hallway now...yet our hearts are full of wonderful memories. Godspeed, Max. We'll see you at the Rainbow Bridge. We will always miss you, Dubmeister. You were the prettiest boy I ever saw. You were my first boy dog. What a gentleman you were. You were so gentle, you even let your sister rob your food dish if we didnt watch her. You would just step aside and never get mad at her. The joy of chasing a tennis ball ran right thru you when you played "chase" with Daddy. Our hearts just ache at the loss of your small warm body sleeping with us at night. I had never heard of the Anemia that took you from us. I know you are with Mandy and you both have Pam to watch over you. We love and miss you, Dubby. George, Janet and Dubby's sister, Princess
On August 30, 2004, I received a call from Donna Goodman asking if I would help her with an owner surrender. Some well-meaning people had found Rupert months earlier, wandering the streets in winter, and having horrible multiple cluster seizures. These people were living in horrible conditions and had two large dogs that kept attacking Rupert, sending him off to emergency. The stress was horrible for him so they knew they could not keep him, which is how Donna was called. Donna asked if my vets could assess him and I offered to foster him for her. His prognosis was terrible, the poor baby had the worst case of stubborn epilepsy our vets had ever seen and they told us he may live a month so I should take him home and try to keep him comfortable. He was on a toxic dose of Phenobarbital and it was doing nothing. Then.....enter Dustin, our very first Papillion, a puppy mill rescue. As soon as Rupert walked in our front door, Dustin fell in love with him. He alerted to Rupert's seizures, washed Rupert's face and ears daily, showed him the ropes, and offered his toys They were instantly joined at the hip, and remained that way. We knew that we had to do everything possible to save Rupee, andTeam Rupert was formed. With the help of our wonderful vets and the research department at UC Davis, Rupert's "Plan" was begun. We weathered liver failure, infections, acute bouts of pancreatitis, pneumonia, you name it, the little guy had an iron will and he loved his life. He went to the doggie park, went on road trips, flew to Washington State to visit his aunt and uncle, and shopped in a flashy red stroller. He made friends everywhere, and he was so easy to love. An absolute cuddle bug, he rarely barked, had his own language, and loved that our lives revolved around him. His seizures stopped, and most times we forgot how fragile his health was, but not for long. Rupert tolerated anything, he never fussed about his meds, tests, procedures, or that we dressed him up in cute costumes. He loved the color pink, and made us all laugh constantly. The void he has left is horrible, but the joys he brought us the past 4 years and 3 months will have to last forever. In spite of the turmoil’s he faced in his short life, his transition to the Bridge was the most peaceful experience I have witnessed, and my promise to him that he would leave my arms for the Bridge was an easy one to keep..We will grieve Rupee’s loss forever but we know he is in a better place, loving his new wings, and waiting to smother us with his kisses once more. Our heart dog, our Rupee……., thank you for the privilege of being your Mom & Dad. Bill and Sandee Ogilvie 11/16/2008 Click a letter to find an animal or view all.
